Burning Plasma Simulation and Environmental Assessment of Tokamak, Spherical Tokamak and Helical Reactors

چکیده
Reference 1-GWe D-T reactors; tokamak TR-1, spherical tokamak ST-1 and helical HR-1 reactors, are designed using PEC (Physics Engineering Cost) code, and thier plasma behaviors with Internal Transport Barrier (ITB) operations are analyzed using TOTAL (Toroidal Transport Analysis Linkage) code, which clarifies the requirement of deep penetration of pellet fueling to realize steady-state advanced burning operation. In addition, economical and environmental assessments were performed using extended PEC code, which shows the advantage of high beta tokamak reactors in COE and the advantage of compact spherical tokamak in lifetime CO2 emission reduction. Comparing with other electric power generation system, the cost of fusion reactor is higher than that of fission reactor, but on the same level of oil thermal power system. The CO2 reduction can be achieved in fusion reactors same as in the fission reactor. The EPR of high-beta tokamak reactor TR-1 could be higher than that of other systems including fission reactor. These systematic design and comparative simulation analyses on both tokamak and helical reactors can be done by the help of the above two codes.

Recent experiments on the spherical tokamak have discovered the conditions to create a powerful plasma and ensure easy shaping and amplification of stability, high bootstrap current and confinement energy. The spherical tours (ST) fusion energy development path is complementary to the tokamak burning plasma experiment such as NSTX and higher toroidal beta regimes and improves the design of a po...

For the assessment of both tokamak and helical reactors, the base case reactor models are introduced, and parameter scan analyses on plasma beta, electric power output, maximum magnetic field strength and neutron wall loading are carried out. The assessment shows that high temperature operation is appropriate in tokamak reactors to increase bootstrap current fraction and current-drive (CD) effi...

Social acceptance of fusion reactors depends largely on their economic viability. To investigate this issue, we estimate and compare the cost of electricity (COE) among D-T, D-3He, and D-D fusion reactors. Three types of confinement systems are evaluated: the tokamak reactor (TR), the spherical tokamak reactor (STR), and helical reactor (HR). For each reactor type, COE parameter surveys are per...

The impurity transport simulation code TOTAL (TOroidal Transport Analysis Linkage) consisting of 1-D(dimensional) transport and 2or 3-D equilibrium is developed for analyzing tokamak and helical burning plasmas controlled by feedback scheme with gas puffing, pellet fueling injection and heating power modulations. In this code multi-species of impurity ions can be treated including neoclassical ...
